Dr. Kagetsu was born and raised in upstate New York. While an undergraduate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she performed research on the effects of UV light at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Her research took place at the Wellman Laboratories, the same lab that pioneered the use of the pulsed dye laser for the treatment of cutaneous vascular malformations.
After graduating from the SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine, Dr. Kagetsu completed her dermatology residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She had academic appointments at Wayne State University and the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. Dr. Kagetsu has been in dermatology practice since 1990, and joined Chapel Hill Dermatology in 1999. Dr. Kagetsu and her husband live in Chapel Hill with their four children.
